Camping lanterns

A lantern works opposite to a flashlight: it spreads wide 360° light with no hot spot, to illuminate a table, a tent, or a workshop. The actual need stays modest, from 50 to 200 lumens for a shelter of two to four people, with a high color rendering index and a color temperature around 3,000 K, more restful in the evening than a cool white.

Runtime, power, and mounting

Runtime is read on the low setting, often several dozen hours, and drops quickly at maximum. AA or AAA battery formats can be restocked anywhere, while 18650 battery or internal battery models recharge via USB-C and sometimes serve as a power bank. A foldable silicone globe reduces bulk; a hook, a magnet, or a tripod allows the light source to be suspended above the work surface.
