Shovels
A shovel is an essential tool for better gardening or moving materials. There are several shovel shapes and each model corresponds to a specific use.
The different types of shovels for gardening
Each shovel is designed for a specific use. You therefore have:
- The steel shovel, which is distinguished by its metal head and allows for shoveling and digging the ground
- The round shovel is highly valued for its ability to penetrate materials such as sand, gravel and soil
- The square shovel or spade allows for scraping flat surfaces and has a large capacity thanks to its wide, flat blade
- The transplanting trowel, which comes in the form of a short-handled trowel
- The spade is fitted with a long narrow head for working heavy and clay soils
Some criteria for choosing a shovel
The choice must therefore be based on the tasks to be carried out. A hollow or lipped head is suitable for shoveling all types of materials. By opting for a square-headed shovel, it is possible to transport larger quantities of materials. For more practicality, opt for a round-headed shovel. For digging work, the ideal is to choose a shovel with a steel head and a carbon handle.
Whether for prolonged or occasional use, it is always recommended to consider the robustness of the shovel. To do so, its head must be made of a resistant material. As for its handle, it is preferable that it be made of polycarbonate, solid wood or hardened steel.
