Boker Plus Appalachian Small Axe: Precision and Compactness
The axe Boker Plus Appalachian Small stands out for its Rhenish-shaped axe head, made from 1055 carbon steel. This material offers a high carbon content, ensuring superior quality, even among high-end axes. The 10.7 cm long cutting edge features a heel that can be used as a point to turn over pieces of wood. A protective varnish covers the steel, effectively protecting it against rust. The axe head weighs 600 g, a weight that ensures versatility of use.
The handle of this axe is made from American long-fiber hickory, a premium wood recognized for its elasticity and shock resistance, surpassing European ash. The double fitting, with a wooden wedge and a steel ferrule, reinforces the strength of the assembly. The Appalachian Small axe, with its 35.5 cm handle, is the shortest in the range, making it easy to carry in a backpack. Its compact size allows for prolonged, fatigue-free one-handed use, ideal for cutting kindling. Historically, this type of axe was used to supply wood to hearths, hence its former name of "kitchen axe". Please note that a leather sheath is not included.
