As opposed to folding knives, fixed knives are knives that are fixed in place and whose blades cannot be folded. Sometimes called sheath knives, these knives are distinguished by their strength and the absence of moving parts inside. They feature an extension of the blade into the handle. A fixed blade knife cannot close when you don't want it to. They offer greater safety in use than pocket knives. That's why you should always opt for fixed knives for the most demanding tasks. There is no replacement for a good fixed blade knife. When working in nature, a fixed blade knife is often a better choice than a folding knife. They are more rugged, stronger, and can often be abused to a degree that no pocket knife could ever withstand.
