Higonokami Kane Tsune blade length 40 mm gold brass handle
The Higonokami or samurai knife is an iconic folding knife from Japan. It was invented in 1896 during the industrial revolution. The small knife is distinguished by a "san mai" forged blade, which means that the blade is composed of three layers of steel. Shaped like a katana, the blade consists of a very hard layer sandwiched between two softer layers. The handle, simpler, is made of brass sheet. On the knife, you can find an engraving of a samurai or the blacksmith's signature. The Higonokami can be used daily, in the kitchen or for DIY projects.
Folding blade knives are easy-to-carry weapons. The principle is to store the sharp blade in the handle to facilitate transport but also to ensure the safety of the user. A locking system, which can be activated automatically or manually, allows the blade to remain immobile.
